ABOUT PLACE This beautiful Palladian mansion features in the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice. The interior is filled with fine pictures and furniture and is noted for its unusual Octagon Room. There are 19th-century grounds, and waymarked trails in the parkland. This magnificent 18th century country house is set in 400 acres of parkland near the River Thames. It was used as a wartime training camp for British and American soldiers and thus fell on hard times in the early part of the twentieth century. It was rescued in the 1950s and lovingly restored by Lord and Lady Iliffe who filled their home with fine collections of art, porcelain and furniture. It is now a National Trust property and well worth a visit.
